The Blackeyed Susans

Formed in Perth in 1989, The Blackeyed Susans have built a reputation for their moody romanticism and op-shop stylings. Declared national treasures by Rolling Stone magazine, they have toured the world, played with the likes of Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen and released numerous albums. Classic Susans songs such as A Curse On You, Smokin’ Johnny Cash and Blue Skies, Blue Sea established the group as impressionistic storytellers with a bent ear for melody and atmospherics. Long, reverby trails of pedal steel, tremolo guitar, violin and keyboards combine to create lush soundscapes for the album’s dreamlike torch songs, bruised ballads and other-worldly rockers. Free creative workshops for 13 to 17 year olds

Cartooning for year 8 & 9 students (13-15 year olds)  11 am-12.30 pmWork with a professional illustrator to create characters, develop your own style and tell a cartoon story. Port City Cycles - Rides

Our shop rides are on every Saturday morning and leave from the front of the shop.  We have 2 groups: First group: leaves at 6:30 am, 68 km loop, 34 - 37 km/h average Second group: leaves at 6:35 am, 45 km loop, 27 - 30 km/h average Both groups arrive back in Fremantle at approximately 8:30am and go for coffee afterwards at a designated coffee shop

Artwalk Freo 2017

Discover the magic of colour and artistic creation at Artwalk Freo 2017 27 and 28 May. AWF is a Fremantle based artist collective. Over two days the public are offered a unique opportunity to enter the living work spaces of established Fremantle artists Michael Knight, Trevor Richards, Penny Bovell, Ian de Souza, Annette Seeman, John Teschendorff, Eveline Kotai and Jo Darbyshire.  Guest artists will also be present and are listed below. Handbuilt Ceramics Workshop

Spend a day in a serene light-filled studio making ceramics with Simone, the creator of Winterwares. As with all Winterwares workshops the intention is to give you some time-out from your regular routine, to get back to basics and create with clay. The hope is that you’ll come away from the workshop feeling relaxed and inspired and of course have some lovely handcrafted ceramics to show for it!   Tickets are $249 and includes a delicious local lunch and all materials to make a selection of four dinnerware items (you can choose one the day from bowls, plates or tumblers or a mix).

Walk in the Shoes of Convicts

An exhibition of original handmade items from the Fremantle Women's Prisons original inmates. Come down to see an exhibition of handmade vintage clothing and home wares from the past 100 years of Australian fashion and its impact on the women of Western Australia. Take part in our Crafternoon to create your own handmade piece of history. Voices from the Past

Hear the volunteer Guides give voice to individual stories of prisoners, warders and authorities associated with the Fremantle Round House - Western Australia's oldest extant public building.   The terrible fate of the Indigenous prisoners, of John Gavin who was the first white person hung in Western Australia, of Jane Green or Margaret Farmer who were two of the female prisoners.   Try the pillories for size, ring the curfew bell and see the 1.00pm cannon fired.
