Notre Dame's historical campus tours

They’re back!  Notre Dame’s famous tours of our historic, West End campus are available again to all festival goers in 2017.  We’ll take you on a unique, backstage walk through some of the finest historic buildings in Fremantle. Bring your walking shoes to join Leigh Dawson and his colleagues for an hour on campus.  You’ll share in the stories of those who have lived in and loved our town over the past century, and will be given special admission to some of Fremantle’s best-kept secret locations.

Paella Sunday

**Monk Paella on the Terrace**  Sunday afternoons should be filled with tasty eats and soaking up the sun! Join us from 11am-4pm as the chef cooks up Paella on the terrace. This Valencian rice dish is full of flavour and guaranteed to tickle your taste buds!

A Sunday at Guildhall May

Usually a private hire wedding venue, Guildhall also love to throw a few events of their own. On the last Sunday of each month, the exclusive venue opens the doors to its beautiful heritage bar for the ultimate Sunday session. See you at the end of May for chilled out DJ tunes, late afternoon cocktails and tasty bites from Propeller North Freo. The Ultimate High Tea

Fremantle's Secret Fleets Turn The Tide

Join Commodore Bob Trotter OAM RAN (Ret’d) for a special talk in the NWS Shipping Theatre. Hear how US, British and Dutch Navy Submarines based at Albany and Fremantle turned the tide of the Pacific War and, decades later, the Fremantle area became the centre of Australian Naval force.  Bookings are recommended. J Shed Art Tour

Peter Zuvela, the Manager of J Shed Art Studio, will be conducting an hour tour of Fremantle's J Shed. The tour will include the famous Greg James Sculpture Studio Gallery and a history talk about J Shed itself.  Beside its unique history of being moved from the Fremantle Port to its current location then later modified, J Shed has been the home of many successful artists including Greg James, Jenny Dawson and recently Jina Lee and many more. 

Sunday Jazz Sessions at Creatures NextDoor

Bearing Witness, and the Artist as Historian: free talk by Prof Deborah Gare

The artist, Hans Holbein, engineered the royal wedding between Henry VIII and Anne of Cleves—and doomed it to failure when, in real life, the princess did not live up to the beauty of her portrait.  In another country, and another century, Eugene Delacroix recorded the uprising of the French people in 1830 in his iconic work ‘Liberty Leading the People’.  Can history be read through works of art? In this fascinating talk Notre Dame’s professor of history, Deborah Gare, will reveal how art bears witness to extraordinary events of our past and how, indeed, painters might sometimes be considered historians. …

The National Hotel History Tour

Join us for a tour of this magnificent hotel dating back to the gold rush era. Recently restored after a devastating fire almost completely destroyed the building, the hotel has a chequered history of murder, violence and fires. The tour culminates with a visit to the stunning rooftop displaying views across Fremantle and the port.
