Fremantle Fibonacci Centre

To make a city into a beautiful resonating magnet, we must nurture the Dreamers and the Makers.Dreamt and made by Robby Lang (and Friends!), the Fremantle Fibonacci Centre aims to do this, by allowing people a space to try out their ideas. It is an incubation chamber for ideas.A community of artists and makers creating and working together. Meanwhile, at the BLINCO ST CAFÉ, musicians and poets entertain diners whilst artists and dreamers discuss their visions over fine coffee, and the best Mango Lassi in the multiverse....Massive steel gates lead through to an amazing central creative space. Freo's Cappucino Strip – seven days a week

It’s generally agreed that the length of South Terrace from Bannister Street through to the Fremantle Markets is known as the Cappuccino Stripand just off the strip you'll find Little Market Street (soon to be known as Market Street Piazza), Fremantle Malls and South Terrace Piazza. The home of al fresco dining in Western Australia, the strip is packed to the brim with cafés, restaurants, hotels and boutiques and whatever day of the week you visit it’s always buzzing. Here's some tips from the Fremantle story team about what's happening where: Monday It’s amusing to watch Freo office workers swarm to the ‘strip’ like bees to honey for their Monday morning caffeine fix. Whether it’s a ‘long black topped up’ at Dome, a ‘short black with a dash’ from Salted Board or a ‘soy decaf latte’ from Stable Hands on Bannister Street, everyone has their favourite spot to kick start the working week. Tuesday As the mums and bubs groups gather for morning tea at San Churro you can hear the squeals of delight as the highly anticipated churros and hot chocolates are delivered to tables. Two of the toddlers are drawn in by the sounds coming from Timezone and so desperately want to go and explore (or perhaps The Pickled Fairy is calling). Wednesday It may be hump day for working folk but it doesn’t make a difference what day of the week it is to the European gentlemen who gather religiously every day at Ginos. At their alfresco table (yes it’s always the same table) they sit with an espresso and chat with their buddies. We’d love to know what they talk about! Thursday The delicious garlic aroma wafting through the air is making it difficult for the lunch crowd at Pizza Bella Roma to decide what they are going to order, will it be pizza or the famous chilli mussels. Thursdays is Record Club tribute night at the Newport Hotel. Stop in, it’s always a blast. Friday The night everyone celebrates the end of the work week with a quick drink with colleagues. You’re spoilt for choice but how to agree where to start? The Sail & Anchor is always a fav. In summer the Monk is the perfect spot to have a drink and sit on the balcony in the evening light.  Upstairs at Zapfhallhas a lofty balcony view over the strip and a popular spot to enjoy a stein or two. Saturday Relax and dine alfresco and watch the world go by, including the classic cars cruising around Freo doing ‘bog laps’. The tables at Sandrino are heaving with family gatherings, groups of friends and couples on ‘date night’. Right next door you can sample Benny’s famous Espresso Martini (on tap!). Sunday Sunday mornings is often a delightful contrast between the lycra crowd and those that are starting the day in a more leisurely way. All are enjoying a coffee and a bite to eat before a browse through the Fremantle Markets or picking up the fruit and vege for the week. Market Street Piazza (opening Friday 28 October) Market Street Piazza is the newest urban space in Freo with funky street furniture, trees and festoon lighting draped across the street it creates a new space to relax in the heart of the Fremantle. Enjoy a meal or a drink, watch street entertainment or follow the progress of international artist Horatio T Birdbath’s incredibly detailed mural alongside Gino’s Café & Trattoria. Bring the family along on Friday 28 October from 6-9 pm and join in the first event to be hosted at Market Street Piazza, the launch event for Little Italy by the Sea.

Gino's Cafe

When Gino Saccone (1937-2001) got fed up with the poor coffee on offer, he closed down his men's wear shop and opened Gino's Trattoria in 1983. Since that time and through the heady days of the America's Cup, many cafes have come and gone but one constant has been Gino's on the corner of Market Street and South Terrace, the gateway to Fremantle's famous Cappucino Strip. Why has Gino's lasted where so many others have failed? There are a number of factors - but the biggest one is consistently good coffee that is consistently well made. It all starts with…
