Fallen Soldiers' Memorial, Cnr Queen Victoria Street and Harvest Road, North Fremantle
- North Fremantle
Gather around Fremantle's first war memorial and join members of the Bicton-Palmyra RSL and the North Fremantle Amateur Football Club in remembering our fallen.
About 550 men out of a population of 4,000 from North Fremantle served overseas during World War One. Just over 100 did not return and in 1921, a committee was organised to raise funds for a memorial to these men. The site on the corner of the reserve next to the Town Hall was chosen as it would be seen by everyone that passed through the town. A total of 105 names were inscribed on each of the monuments four faces. In 1945, 12 names were added to commemorate those from the local community who died during World War Two.
The Bicton-Palmyra RSL holds a service at this memorial every ANZAC Day and the City of Fremantle is very pleased to be able to support this commemorative service in 2017.
