WA Teaching and Learning Forum 2018

The Teaching and Learning Forum (TLF) is an annual conference, held in Perth, Western Australia. The inaugural Teaching and Learning Forum was held in 1992 and included the five Western Australian universities. Each year since then, the Forum has continued the tradition of bringing together educators from across the higher education sector to share, challenge and develop their ideas about teaching and learning. This event provides an inclusive space for people to explore and disseminate their Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). The TLF committee warmly welcomes everyone involved in higher education, from early career academics who may have recently started teaching to experienced researchers. The theme for 2018 is Student Futures. This Forum aims to include presentations that highlight and explore the student experience; past, present and future, with an emphasis on key knowledge, skills and applications that aim to enhance student learning and equip 21st-century graduates. Some topics may include, but are not limited to: Curriculum Assessment Flexible learning Employability Analytics Internationalisation and Global learning Students as partners

Chocolate Adventure

Your hosts Willow and Catherine have been traveling the globe tracking down the tastes, stories and secrets of chocolate for the past decade together. Now, through their passion and commitment, offer you a 2 hour chocolate story-telling and tasting adventure. You will dive deeply into a reverent (and sometimes irreverent) journey towards the heart of chocolate - from the sacred tree, divine fruit and ‘seed of the gods’, to the sacrament of the most treasured beverage of the Aztecs and Mayans.On we go through the glory of the Spanish and ever onward into Europe and to the chocolate bars we now know and love (and feel a little bit guilty for indulging in).On this storytelling ride - you will discover however, that there is a pure, simple and simply delicious way of making your own divine chocolate at home that is nutritious (in surprising ways) and avoids the unnecessary adulterating additions and processes of lecithin or other stabilisers, tempering and high temperature roasting!You will leave with a deeper, more respectful relationship with chocolate, your tummy full of chocolate, your recipe to make world class chocolate at home in around 20 minutes AND $50 of ingredients to continue your own chocolate making adventures!Join us for 2 guilt-free chocolate filled hours! Session times 1.00pm to 3.00pm.

Term 1 Scratch and Electronics Course after school

Term 1 - 10-Weeks of after school classes in electronics and coding. Classes are kept small, maximum of 6 (please contact to accommodate a big group). For ages 7+ - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, or STEM learning, to gain a basic understanding of ‘Physical Computing'; in other words, building interactive physical systems by the use of software and hardware that can sense and respond to the real world. Identify computer components, learn programming concepts using Scratch API (Application Programming Interface) with Raspberry Pi input/output electronics. Pre-requests: None. {Optionally, bring your own USB memory stick for back-ups, but not essential.}Objective: To Have Fun! Develop an appreciation for creativity, reasoning, problem solving and collaboration while having fun making video games. Understanding basic concepts of electronic circuits interfaced to a computer. Learn by doing hands-on physical computing activities to understand our human relationship to the digital world. Limited space, booking is essential. Term 1 - 10-Week after school physical computing electronics course wiring Raspberry Pi Computer and coding in Python. Classes are kept small, maximum of 6 (please contact to accommodate a big group). All Ages 11+ years Introduction to electronics and Python programming! Learn by doing fun physical computing activities that interface with a Raspberry Pi computer’s input/output electronics. Physical Computing is building interactive systems by the use of software and hardware that can sense and respond to the real world. Python programming using Turtle graphics and API to Minecraft Pi (virtual world). Wire input/output circuits and then write interface Python code to work with those circuits (real world). Prerequisites: None - all equipment supplied {Option: bring WiFi Windows laptop to load Python on own computer} Limited space, booking is essential.
