Insider Art Spring 2017

Insider Art: Spring 2017 showcases the creative achievements of incarcerated prisoners from across Western Australia.  A joint initiative of the Department of Justice and Fremantle Prison, this quarterly exhibition will be on show in the old Print Shop (Fremantle Prison Gallery). These exhibitions are always diverse in style and ideas. Pieces exhibited include those from traditional Aboriginal artists with 50,000 years of culture to draw upon; those created by prisoners engaged in tertiary courses in contemporary art practice; and everything in between.  Participation in the creative process offers prisoners more than simple education and recreation. The production of artworks can be an important component…

Reform The History of Reformative Measures

Prisons serve four main functions in society. They punish offenders, protect the community from criminals, act as a disincentive to people considering crime and provide prisoners the opportunity to reform before their release back into the community. The exhibition Reform: A History of Reformative Measures at Fremantle Prison explores what strategies were employed at Fremantle Prison to control and change prisoner behaviour. While Fremantle Prison was at times a place of harsh punishment, it also provided prisoners with the opportunity to acquire new skills and reform. The exhibition explores the practice of religion, education, work and training at Fremantle Prison through its…

Brewery Tours at Little Creatures

One shared belief when Little Creatures was just a twinkle in our eyes was that breweries over the years have hardly been the most romantic of places. Hidden behind big brick walls and imposing gates, very little was visible to the passing community. It is our ambition to change all that, to become an open and transparent Brewery that welcomes all walks of life to experience the wonder of brewing. Come on down, say hi and explore our little piece of brewing happiness. Not sure what style of beer is for you? Want to learn about all things brewing along…

10863 Bushranger presented by ActBelongCommit

10863 Bushranger showcases artworks created by WA visual artist Di Taylor and tells the life and adventures of Frank Thomas, a young bushranger from the Mid West region of Western Australia. Thomas regularly appeared in the news in the early 1920s for his skill as a rider and bushman, for eluding police and for escaping custody on multiple occasions. He spent time at both Geraldton Gaol and Fremantle Prison, with The West Australian comparing his exploits to the Kelly gang!

Wildlife Zoo at the Markets

We love having West Oz Wildlife, one of Perth’s leading wildlife petting zoos, at Fremantle Markets. They provide a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with native Australian animals such as koalas, snakes & dingoes. You can usually only glimpse such animals amidst big crowds in larger reserves or zoos. Our Wildlife Zoo offers a more intimate approach, allowing both children and adults to experience these animals in a smaller and more relaxed setting. Entry by Gold Coin Donation. Don't forget your camera!
