Wray Avenue

Take a leisurely stroll down the intimate enclave of Wray Avenue and you will feel like you have returned home. There is a strong sense of community spirit in this dynamic microcosm and before you know it you’ll be chatting to the person next to you like you’re old friends. A subtle European flavour permeates this cosy precinct, which is evident as soon as you walk into the family-run Galati & Sons. Here, make sure to pick up some fresh, seasonal produce, peruse the shelves laden with all different types of pasta—some of which you may never have heard of—and try not to eavesdrop on the nonnas gossiping next to you in Italian. Then, wander next door to Frank’s Gourmet Meats, where the signage outside may have you temporarily overwhelmed, and step inside where personalised service of an era gone by awaits.     Frank's Gourmet MeatsOnce your dinner needs are sorted, return to the present by popping into the eclectic Pekho: wear + wares store to browse their vast range of urban homewares and accessories. Across the road, artisan garment shop, Madam Bukeshla, sells hand-stitched, understated designs created by textile artist Trish Bygott, as well as running occasional workshops.  Madam Bukeshla Don’t forget to venture around the corner onto South Terrace to local boutique Staple Store to pick up some relaxed boho apparel, and, for the gentlemen, visit the quirky Diamond Aps Mens Recycling Boutique to see what oneof-a-kind gems you might uncover. Hunting for treasures may have you feeling thirsty so saunter over to Lenny the Ox, partly owned by the same outfit behind that other Fremantle institution Ootong & Lincoln, where you can linger outside with a coffee and watch the world meander on by. For a healthier alternative, The Little Concept (TLC) serves up delicious acai smoothies alongside their famous red espresso range.   The Little Concept You’ll leave with a smile on your face and already planning your next visit: it’s a happy, close-knit family here—one where everyone is welcome.
